There is an increased OEM need to differentiate truck platforms, reduce weight and improve design flexibility by combining customer tailorable features in lower production volume vehicles. Truck box designs from Dow Automotive result in greater styling flexibility with reduced costs and improved performance. Dow Automotive has developed an integrated approach to truck box design and engineering. We have also developed a unique engineering evaluation scheme for optimizing filled polyurea body panel manufacturing to help decrease tool iterations and shorten the time to market.
New adhesive technology has enabled Dow Automotive to introduce innovative and cost-effective construction of truck boxes. The development of BETAMATE™ LESA (low energy substrate adhesive), has enabled us to optimize materials and manufacturing processes with reduced manufacturing investment, to produce a three-piece construction truck box that is adhesively bonded. BETAMATE™ LESA can bond dissimilar substrates like PP to SMC or SRIM without the need for a primer. Injection or compression molding of the sides and beds allows for more opportunities to integrate storage compartments and other features into the truck box design. These features are not attainable in one-piece construction.
